Hurt People Hurt People

Rick (Curse Breaker) · 4:05 · from Warrior's Way Mindset

Hurt people want to heal. Wicked people want to rule.

Warrior's Way Mindset — a mentor's songs for men doing the work.

What “Hurt People Hurt People” is about

Hurt People Hurt People is a song about the difference between a wounded person and a wicked one. The phrase is true for most people — hurt people push others away because they need space to heal. It is also the perfect cover story for a smaller, louder group who use it as permission. Rick's test is behavior, not words: are you in protection mode, or are you looking to profit? A hurt animal shows its teeth and backs away. A snake plays dead so it can bite you. The song walks toward the thing on the floor, names the lie in the chorus, keeps walking anyway, and gets bitten in the bridge — you're lying still to set the trap, you play dead so you can snap. The outro gives the phrase back to the people it was always true for. From Rick's coaching — the Warrior's Way Mindset. Listen free on Mi.

About “Hurt People Hurt People”

From a recorded session, May 2026. Noel brought the phrase “hurt people hurt people” as a concept; Rick took it apart in one breath: “Wounded people want to heal. Wicked people want to rule.” Then the tell — “a snake isn't trying. He's like, oh, I'm going to play dead so I can bite you” — and the line the chorus is built on: “victimhood becomes their promotion.” The whole song is that distinction. The bridge is the snake. The last words give the phrase back to the wounded.

The journey

  1. 01

    The Floor

Something lying still in the shadows, quiet on the floor — and I know what you're looking for.

  2. 02

    Two Animals

A wounded animal shows its teeth and runs. You are hiding underneath, waiting for the dive.

  3. 03

    The Easy Lie

They say hurt people hurt people. Wounded animals run away — they don't drag you into hell.

  4. 04

    The Strategy

Crying at the gate. It's not about protection — it's everything you gain. And I can see the game.

  5. 05

    The Trap

You aren't looking for a cure. You're lying still to set the trap; you play dead so you can snap.

  6. 06

    I See the Snake

Playing dead till you strike. Hurt people, hurt people — said plainly, for the ones it was true for.

Lyrics

You're laying in the shadows You're quiet on the floor You're acting like you're broken But I know what you're looking for A wounded animal will show its teeth Just trying to survive But you are hiding underneath Just waiting for the dive You act like you're the bleeding one But I can see the truth You're digging for the venom To weaponize the proof Victimhood becomes the crown You wear it like a prize You try to tear the whole thing down With water in your eyes They say that hurt people hurt people It's an easy lie to sell But wounded animals run away They don't drag you into hell! The villain in a victim's clothes Will play me for a fool Cause hurt people want to heal! But wicked people want to rule! You're begging for the sympathy You're crying at the gate But this is just a strategy To manufacture hate You feed upon the pity You profit from the pain It's not about protection It's everything you gain Victimhood becomes the crown You wear it like a prize You try to tear the whole thing down With water in your eyes They say that hurt people hurt people But I can see the game You aren't bleeding from the past You are profiting from pain! The villain in a victim's clothes Will play me for a fool Cause hurt people want to heal! But wicked people want to rule! You aren't looking for a cure! You're looking for control! Your intentions aren't pure! You're coming for the soul! You're lying still to set the trap! You play dead so you can snap! They say that hurt people hurt people But the venom is your choice! You aren't looking for a cure You are stealing every voice! The villain in a victim's clothes Will play me for a fool Cause hurt people want to heal! But wicked people want to rule! I see the snake. Playing dead till you strike. Hurt people, hurt people. Hurt People Hurt People

“Hurt People Hurt People” Is a Lie Manipulators Love

The real conversation the song was born in — wounded vs. wicked, the snake that plays dead, and why you can't grieve evil like a loss — then the finished track. The creative process in public.

The full story of this video

“Hurt People Hurt People” began as a single sentence in a recorded session: hurt people want to heal, wicked people want to rule. Rick, a coach who has spent years in rooms full of hurt men, was explaining the one measurement he trusts when someone tells him they've been wounded. Not the story — the behavior. A hurt animal bares its teeth and backs away; it needs distance so it can heal. A snake lies perfectly still so you'll come close enough to bite. Both are on the floor. Only one of them is waiting for you.

The conversation that follows is the song's whole architecture. Victimhood as a promotion. The villain dressed as a victim. The difference between protection and profit. And a harder turn near the end, where Noel names his own run-in with malevolence and Rick draws the line most people never get told: you cannot grieve evil the way you grieve a loss. Forgiveness, grace and closure belong to the wounded. For evil, the only acceptance available is that it exists and that it is wrong — and then the defiant part of you stands up.

The finished track plays at the end of the video. Its bridge is the snake — lying still to set the trap — and its last line gives the phrase back to the people it was always true for.
